Life itself is full of stress. It could be due to long tedious hours at work, hectic school work, family issues, relationship problems or even drama from friends. Whatever the source of your stress leaves you anxious, uneasy and exasperated and must be dealt with.
We may not be able to completely obliterate stress but we could manage it. Here are some stress-management tips that may help you feel better - and less stressed - every day:
- Accept that there are events that you cannot control. Not all events are under our control so the earlier you realize that, the better for you and the less stressed you are likely to be about certain circumstances.
- At all times, maintain a positive mental attitude; be an optimist rather than a pessimist. Always have an open mind and a positive outlook on life. Trust me, it works.
- Give yourself some time to unwind, If you feel stressed, take a walk or drive in the slow lane to avoid getting angry at other drivers.
- Learn the art of time management and avoid procrastination. Do what you can as at when due, don’t pile up work for later. Set a daily target for yourself and strive to achieve it.
- Engage in activities you have interest in. Seek out new hobbies and ways to ease off. Engage in pleasurable activities like dancing, reading or writing.
- Take 15-20 minutes every day to sit quietly and reflect. Learn and practice relaxation techniques like yoga or deep breathing.
- Exercise is key. Try to exercise on a regular basis by bicycling, walking, hiking, jogging, or working out at the gym. This helps your body fight stress.
- Avoid alcohol and recreational drugs e.g Marijuana, Heroin etc. And consider quitting smoking if you do.
- Always eat a balanced diet and lots of fluid.
- Get enough rest and sleep. Your body needs time to recover from stressful events.
- Seek out social support.
